NE Covid Total Surpasses 27,000; State Senator Supports Omaha Mask Mandate With Amendment

The number of COVID-19 cases in Nebraska is surging past 27-thousand.  Officials confirmed 222 new cases yesterday, bringing the statewide total to 27-thousand-178.  Four more coronavirus deaths were reported yesterday, and the state has seen 332 deaths during the pandemic. A Nebraska lawmaker is trying to make it easier to enact a public facemask mandate in Omaha.  State Senator Megan Hunt introduced an amendment yesterday to change state law to allow Douglas County's health director to implement a facemask order for the city.  Hunt noted that Omaha is the largest city in the country without a mask mandate, and she accused Governor Pete Ricketts of putting his political agenda above public safety when he threatened to sue if a mask mandate was implemented.
